*Job Opening – Congressional Research Office*

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) is seeking expressions of interest
for a short-term opportunity using contract mechanisms (up to one year,
beginning as early as October 1) to serve as an Immigration Analyst.  The
ideal candidate is an experienced policy analyst who has a breadth of
knowledge in a range of immigration subjects, including asylum,
comprehensive immigration reform options, diversity visas, employment-based
immigration (permanent & temporary high-skilled workers), grounds of
inadmissibility & exclusion, noncitizen eligibility for public assistance,
nonimmigrant visa overstays, numerical limits and visa backlogs, point

The position requires the ability to utilize analytical methods and

*Job Opening – Departments of Geography and Sociology/Anthropology, Ohio
University*

The Ohio University Departments of Geography and Sociology/Anthropology
invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Rural
Development, with specialization in the areas of poverty and/or inequality
and related expertise in community, development, or environmental
sustainability, beginning in fall of 2015. A focus on the Appalachian
region is strongly preferred, though we will welcome applications from
candidates whose research focuses on other rural geographic areas within
the U.S. Methodological expertise may include qualitative, quantitative, or
spatial analytical methods. The successful candidate should conduct
research that is theoretically innovative and empirically grounded, and be
committed to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
This position will contribute to the new interdisciplinary curriculum theme
on Wealth and Poverty in the College of Arts and Sciences. Interested

major, providing a comprehensive applied focus to existing theoretical
strengths and make a meaningful regional contribution to Geography’s
Globalization and Development major. The Rural Development position with
tenure home in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology would
complement Sociology’s strengths in social inequality and social change as
well as race/class/gender and would contribute to Sociology’s historical
strength in Appalachian scholarship.



The successful candidate will teach a rotation of graduate and
undergraduate courses focused on Appalachia, community, development,
inequality, rural studies, and social change. Working with other faculty
members involved in the theme, the successful candidate will be expected to
develop and offer a service learning course and participate in teaching the
new Capstone Seminar for the Wealth and Poverty theme.

The Department of Demography at the University of California, Berkeley
seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor with an expected

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Arts &
Sciences at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a
Visiting Assistant Professor position in sociology to begin January 9,

*Job Opening – Department of Demography, University of Texas at San Antonio*

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has an opening for an
assistant professor in applied demography to begin in fall 2015. Health and
inequality is one of two areas of concentration in the department, and this
should be one of the areas of specialization by the applicant. Appointment
will be in the Department of Demography, which is in the College of Public
Policy (COPP). The department has close ties with the Institute for
Demographic and Socioeconomic Research (IDSER). The position involves
teaching, research, and active participation in the Ph.D. program in
Applied Demography. All students in the department come with a master’s
degree, and the department offers only doctoral seminars. The department is
located at UTSA's Downtown campus, with easy access to downtown and the
city’s cultural attractions.



The Department of Demography has more than 40 Ph.D. students, with about
one-third of them being supported as research assistants. The department

The Department of Public Administration & Policy in the University at
Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy seeks to hire a
scholar of public policy at either the Assistant or Associate Professor
rank. We welcome applications from candidates interested in a wide range of
policy areas (for instance, homeland security, health policy, information
policy, social welfare policy, etc.), but have a particular interest in
environmental policy / sustainability with a focus on climate change
policy, management of the consequences of climate change, or management of
climate-induced disasters and events at the local, state/provincial,
national, or multi-national levels.

We are seeking to build our capacity in the emerging field of "policy
informatics". Preference will be given to scholars that use advanced
analytic techniques (statistical modeling, mining "big data," automated
text processing, social network analysis, etc.), computational modeling
(such as agent-based models or system dynamics), and/or communication
technologies (such as social media or participatory platforms) to leverage
diverse data sources to foster innovations in policy, governance processes,
and institutions.

Additional preference will be given to scholars that have experience
working in research-practice partnerships and/or communicating directly
with citizens, policymakers, and other stakeholders about public policy
problems. Experience with grant development is a plus, as is contribution
to any of the Department's areas of distinctive competence (see the list
below). We prefer candidates that can contribute to our existing
undergraduate, MPA, and/or doctoral programs as well as our new Masters of
International Affairs (MIA) program. The successful candidate must hold a
Ph.D. in public policy, economics, political science, sociology,
atmospheric or climate sciences, or an allied field by August 2015.
