The First Review Date for this job is: April 11, 2014

Departmental Overview
The University of California Social Networks Study, or "UCNets," seeks to
improve our understanding about our social lives, how we spend time with
family, friends and others. Research shows that people's social
connections affect their health. This study will look at changes in social
connections and personal networks of over a thousand northern Californians
over time and how those changes affect their health.

This panel survey will include 3 waves of face-to-face and web-based
interviews, with 1,200 interviews in the first wave. Some respondents will
begin in web and remain so for all 3 waves, as will some face-to-face
interviewees, while some initial face-to-face respondents will transition
to web-based interviews from the first to the second, or the second to the
third wave.

The position entails two components: (1) data management and (2)
statistical analysis. The Data Analyst will work with the data after it is
received from the data collection vendors, and organize the data for
analysis, including variable creation, imputation, weighting, data quality
audits, corrections, and preparing data documentation for use by the UCNets
team at UC Berkeley, and for other users in the broader research community.
The Data Analyst will prepare documentation to be posted on the UCNets
website. The Data Analyst will also assist the Principal Investigator and
other researchers in using the data for scholarly research.

The Data Analyst would be encouraged, given time and interest, to conduct
his or her own scholarly work on the data.
