Position Description:

Bringing unprecedented reliability and statistical projectability to online
research, the KnowledgePanel is the only large-scale, online panel that is
representative of the U.S. population. KnowledgePanel provides the highest
level of accuracy and representativeness available on the web today - a
degree of reliability essential to accurate measurement of public opinion
and behavior.

The ideal candidate is an experienced survey researcher with strong project
management and client-facing skills who loves managing project teams
working on complex survey projects. These survey projects are primarily
web-based and will often involve use of the KnowledgePanel as the sample
source. In addition, the candidate will manage custom studies using
address-based sampling and list samples for cross-sectional and
longitudinal surveys, as well as development of custom web panels. Past
experience in managing surveys using multiple modes of data collection
(CATI, PAPI, and web) and experience in using passive digital data
collection/social media is desirable. The Research Director/Senior Research
Director will manage survey projects funded by federal agencies,
foundations, and universities with sample and data collection budgets
exceeding $1M.

The Research Director/Senior Research Director will report to the Vice
President of Custom Survey Science of the Government and Academic Research
group and must be a terrific manager of people and be able to work
effectively in a large complex organization that has supporting project
teams for sampling, questionnaire scripting, statistical weighting,
research analytics and other departments. This person must pay great
attention to detail, handle multiple tasks and priorities, take initiative,
and work well both independently and in a group setting. The Research
Director/Senior Research Director will assist in all aspects of proposal
and project design, coordination; delivery, project budget monitoring, and
quality control including preparing questionnaires; managing data
collection and processing; managing vendors such as telephone research
centers, printing and mail shops, analysis and deliverables, insuring
quality throughout the project cycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*    Provide project management leadership for Government & Academic
Research surveys
*    Work in the staff matrix to coordinate and manage activities of
approximately 6 to 12 staff members that work on any given study, with
project team size exceeding 12 staff members on the largest studies
*    Work closely with the Business Developers in Government & Academic
Research in proposal support and in identifying and implementing solutions
for problems encountered on studies
*    Day-to-day communication with clients, with input from the Business
Developer responsible for the study and the account
*    All aspects of proposal and project management including questionnaire
development, working with internal operations departments to execute the
project, budget control and monitoring, and facilitating coding and data
tabulation, and developing report and presentation deliverables.

Experience and Skills:
*    Experience working on studies funded by Federal statistical agencies
is a plus
*    Individual must be well rounded in knowledge of survey design,
sampling, questionnaire design, multi-mode data collection, and passionate
about public policy and social science research based on survey research
methods. In particular, the individual must have experience in
questionnaire design and identifying ways to improve questionnaires through
pretesting, cognitive interviewing, and quality review.
*    Experienced in survey-based project management on large, complex
surveys
*    Track record of excellence in attention to detail and management of
Research Associates and other project supporting staff
*    Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in
writing reports documenting the survey methods employed on managed studies
*    Proficiency in SPSS, Excel, and Word is required. SAS, MS Project,
Visio are a plus
*    Ability to supervise others on project related matters and to teach
and mentor junior staff

Education:  BA or BS in social sciences, statistics, or related field (MA
or MS, is highly recommended; PhD is desirable) and at least 5 years
relevant survey research experience for Research Director/10 years for
Senior Research Director
