Job Description:

The Department of Sociology at Brown University seeks to recruit a tenured
or tenure track faculty member of Sociology (at the Assistant, Associate, or
Full Professor Rank) who applies current methods of spatial analysis to
research in any substantive area beginning July 1, 2014. The new faculty
member will interact with a growing body of scholars at Brown working on
spatial research in the social and health sciences. The successful senior
candidate must have an outstanding record of national and international
scholarly achievement, a proven record of successful research funding, and a
demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising.
The successful junior candidate must be engaged in a research program with
the potential to influence his/her field, demonstrate the intention to
obtain external funding, and demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and
graduate teaching and advising. All candidates must have strong quantitative
and spatial analysis skills, be able to teach courses on spatial analysis at
the undergraduate and graduate levels, and be engaged in the research and
training activities of the university initiative in Spatial Structures in
the Social Sciences (S4). Junior candidates must have a doctoral degree
granted or in hand by August 2014. 
 
All candidates should submit: (1) a cover letter describing research
completed and planned, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a short writing sample,
and (4) a teaching statement. Senior candidates (full and associate) should
include the names of five references who would be contacted at the
appropriate time by the search committee. Junior candidates should have
three letters of reference sent at the time of the application. To receive
full consideration applications must be received by September 1, 2013.
