Executive Director - Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP) 

Provide day-to-day management and staff supervision of a multi-country, 
multi-lingual, multi-national survey project in a university setting 
supported by multiple donor sources. Rapid, fact-based decision-making is an

essential part of daily tasks, thus requiring excellent communication, 
interpersonal, and self-starter skills. Will direct and participate 
simultaneously in multiple research projects involving the design and 
implementation of public opinion studies, and the analysis and reporting of 
these data. Independently and/or as member of a research team apply a 
variety of intermediate and advanced statistical techniques and technical 
skills to promote the collection, analysis and interpretation of data 
arising from research studies in an academic research program. 

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as well as fluency 
in both English and Spanish required. 

Key Functions and Expected Performances: 

1. Coordinate members of a research team on the design and implementation of

research projects. 

*  Provide statistical expertise and in the design of research projects, 
   focusing on fundamental issues including specification of hypotheses and 
   basic study design. 
*  Assist the research team in the design of methods to collect 
   information, including the design of questionnaires and other data 
   collection instruments, following the study design developed for the 
   research program. 
*  Participate in the ongoing development and refinement of operations and 
   procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of 
   data. 
*  Participate in development of preliminary plan for analysis of a 
   research study; present such plans to the research team, and prepare 
   final analysis plans based on team input. 
*  Oversee implementation of planned analysis, including data verification 
   and data correction as necessary, using one or more systems of computer 
   hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and 
   analysis of data. 

2. Dissemination of completed research projects 

*  Oversee and participate in the preparation of written reports and oral 
   presentations summarizing data analysis results, including detailed 
   description of statistical methods, detailed analysis of results, and 
   synthesis of conclusions from summary tables 

3. Project management 

*  Keep multiple research projects on track while finding efficiencies in 
   work conducted by research teams both in the home office and in over 20 
   locations throughout the Americas, keeping to deadlines, and 
   communicating with various individuals involved in the research project. 

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences: 

*  PhD in political science, public policy, economics, or the equivalent in 
   graduate education and experience required. 
*  Fluency in English and Spanish required. 
*  Domestic and International travel required 
*  Proficiency in the use of Stata is important. 
*  Knowledge of survey design, data collection, and analysis is essential. 
*  Knowledge of the Latin American region is important, but not absolutely 
   essential. 

Additional Information: 

*  This is a full time, exempt position. Scheduled hours are 8:30am until 
   5:00pm ; Monday thru Friday with flexibility for additional hours during 
   travel. 
*  Background screens will be performed and education will be verified 
   prior to employment. Please be prepared to provide required information
