The Director of Policy and Innovation reports to the Vice President of
National Policy and leads the core policy development and analysis. This
team leader will direct the publication of research and analysis, prepare
recommendations to the senior staff regarding all aspects of the most
ambitious, strategic, and aggressive education policy reform agenda in the
country, and drive the innovation of new policy ideas and reforms.

 

Key Responsibilities

. Direct team of policy and research analysts and serve as the chief advisor
to the VP of National Policy;

. Oversee the update and expansion of Policy Agenda, including concept
development, evidence research, and policy design;

. Develop a framework for cultivating new innovations in education reform
and lead the process for proposing new solutions to common problems faced in
education;

. Define the criteria by which organization measures success as it relates
to its policy agenda and state adoption of reform policies;

. Maintain relentless focus on creating and enabling policy practices that
prioritize student achievement and educational opportunity. 

 

Education/experience

. At least 7 years experience working in education policy, research, and
data analysis;

. Experience writing analysis and commentary of education reform issues for
publication;

. Deep familiarity with most education reform issues, including human
capital strategy, school choice, school governance, and levers for raising
student achievement - teaching experience a plus;

. Experience inspiring a team and managing multiple projects within tight
deadlines;

. Masters Degree: Education, Education Policy, Political Science, Public
Policy, or in a related field. Higher degree a plus.

 

Skills and Knowledge Required

. Ability to read, interpret, and amend complex statutory and regulatory
language, both current and proposed;

. Knowledge of federal, state, and district education policies, practices,
and reform agendas;

. Knowledge of effective research practices and techniques and common
education data resources;

. Superior problem-solving skills;

. Ability to write and clearly communicate complex policy and legislative
issues and concepts to audiences and constituents of diverse backgrounds;

. Ability to manage multiple projects, work within tight deadlines, and
prioritize work as necessary;

. Ability to lead and produce deliverables with a lean and nimble team;

. Ability to work independently and as a key member of multiple small
project teams;

. Ability to provide training and guidance to a wide variety of audiences,
including internal employees and external constituencies.
