Assistant Director, University of Colorado Population Center
The University of Colorado Population Center at the Institute of Behavioral
Science invites applications for a 75%-time Assistant Director of the Center to
begin in Fall 2011. Under the direction of the Director/Principal Investigator
of the CU Population Center, this position will oversee all aspects of Center
operations, both research and managerial, and, as needed, will act on behalf of
the director which will require independent action, leadership, and the ability
to work with other Ph.D. researchers.
We invite applications from recent PhDs with a degree in the social sciences or
related fields and a specialization in population research related to any one
of our signature themes of health and mortality, migration and population
distribution, and environmental demography. The center is part of the
interdisciplinary Population Program and Institute of Behavioral Science. For

The job involves both administrative and research duties. This position will,
among other miscellaneous duties: provide oversight in the processing and
submission of grant proposals; supervise the development and maintenance of the
Center web page; monitor Center research (including human subjects protocol
acquisition and project interim and final reporting requirements); co-ordinate
Center training activities; manage internal competitions for research funds;
make recommendations to Center faculty and staff on equipment and software for
research use; organize technical workshops and conferences; conduct independent
research with the support and mentorship of Center faculty; and participate in
collaborative research with Center faculty. The three-quarter time position
allows for the applicant to pursue independent research and acquisition of
research funds in support of that work. Administrative duties include
arranging for outside speakers, helping obtain data sets and sof!
tware, developing and maintaining the web page, working with human subjects
approval, and completing grant reports. In addition, the assistant director
will, with support and mentorship of Center faculty, have time to work on his
or her own research and to collaborate on new research with center faculty.
