The Linnaeus Center on Social Policy and Family Dynamics in Europe
(SPaDE) announces a two-year post-doctoral position for a researcher in
the early stage of his/her academic career.

The position is for a two-year period with start no later than September
1, 2011. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to bring along plans
for his/her own research linked to the Center’s research agenda, to
collaborate intensively with Center members on ongoing research projects
and to participate in the intellectual life of the Center.

The Linnaeus Center on Social Policy and Family Dynamics in Europe is a
research program financed for 2008-2018 by the Swedish Research Council
(Vetenskapsrådet). It is administered at the Stockholm University
Demography Unit (SUDA), Department of Sociology and led by Professor of
Demography Elizabeth Thomson. The Center brings together expertise in
policy studies and demography from SUDA, the Swedish Institute for
Social Research (SOFI) and the Department of Human Geography and
collaborates with scholars from throughout Europe. The overarching goal
is to produce the best evidence for social policy effects on fertility
and family change and to communicate this evidence to policy makers and
the public.

The Center’s research is to a large extent based on individual-level
data of life-course histories linked to change and variation in social
policies and other relevant social contexts. The research also involves
the production and use of databases with macro-level indicators of
policy contexts. For further information about the Center, consult its
web page www.su.se/spade. Applicants are encouraged to consult with
SPaDE members about their current and future research agendae.

Applicants must have a PhD level academic degree received after February
2008 and be fluent in both spoken and written English. They are expected
to be able to perform high level research and publish in international
refereed journals. Employment criteria include the degree to which the
applicant’s research plan supports the Center’s overall goals and offers
potential for collaboration with other center researchers.

The position will be filled for a fixed term of two years. Salary is
commensurate with those for Assistant Professors in Sweden but may be
adjusted based on an applicant’s individual experience and merits.

The application must include the following documents:

- research plan (3 pages)

- copies of degree certificates

- curriculum vitae, including publication list

- two recommendation letters

- two manuscripts with own research results

Letter of application shall refer to SU 619-2827-10

Letters of recommendation are expected to be submitted independently by
