Job Description:

Queens College seeks an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor with expertise in Cyberinfrastructure as applied to population, demographic or epidemiological studies. This is one of a cluster of hires supported by the CUNY Central Office, as such, the incumbent will be expected to interact and cooperate in this initiative to enhance the use of Cyberinfrastructure in Research at CUNY. Appointment will be in the one of the following: Sociology, Computer Science, Urban Studies Departments or School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Qualifications Ph.D. with significant research experience in applying cyberinfrastructure, especially high performance computing, to problems arising in the fields of population, demography and epidemiology. Examples might include, modeling the impact of spatial patterns and/or the use of very large and diverse data sets. An established research agenda with substantial outside funding support is highly desirable. The successful applicant will be placed in the appropriate department by mutual agreement. This is a tenure track line; and initial tenure may be possible for exceptional candidates. Appointment to the Doctoral Faculty at the Graduate Center of CUNY is open to professors at all ranks, upon review of publication record. Queens College, located in Flushing, New York has a diverse student body of 20,000 students, and is one of the Senior Colleges in the CUNY system. At Queens there is an active research group of demographers and others, who use a variety of complex statistical and other methods, while the Center for the Biology of Natural Systems is engaging in a number of projects using spatial analysis.  There also the CUNY  Institute for Demographic Research at Baruch, which has a number of demographers doing research in various areas.  There is a strong computer science program at Queens, and a Ph.D. program in computer science at the Graduate Center.  All these associations would be open to the successful candidate.  

In all cases applicants should send (1) curriculum vitae, (2) samples of scholarly writing, including published papers and/or funded research proposals; (3) a statement outlining research agenda and teaching interests, and (4) three current confidential letters of recommendation.
