invites applications for tenure-track positions. The specialties required
by its
thematic centers are as follows.

1. Researchers (including assistant research fellow, associate research
fellow
and research fellow, equivalent respectively to assistant professor,
associate
professor and professor in universities).

?Center for Political Thought
Western political thought and political philosophy and the related fields

?Center for Maritime History
Historical studies on (1) fishery and fishing, (2) ships and shipping, (3)
maritime trade and immigration, (4) navy, port control, and coastal
defense, (5)
piracy and smuggling

?Center for Institution and Behavior Studies
Industrial Organizations, Micro-economics and the related fields

?Center for Survey Research
Applicants must have specialized training in sociology, political science,
economics, public health, education, or related fields and demonstrate the
ability to conduct research related to survey methods.

?Center for Asia-Pacific Area Studies
(1) Asia-Pacific history (2) Languages, religions, ethnic groups and
indigenous
cultures in the Asia-Pacific region (3) Post-colonial political, economic
and
social transformation in the Asia-Pacific region (4) Interaction of ethnic
Chinese and local societies in the Asia-Pacific region.

?Center for Geographic Information Science
Specialized training in GIS and two years? collaborative research related
to
the humanities and social sciences


2. Research Technician in the Center for Survey Research
Specialized training in sociology, political science, economics, public
health,
education, or related fields and ability to develop techniques related to
survey
or data archiving.

Qualifications for researchers
1. Currently holding a teaching position in a university or an academic
position in a research institution and is at or above the rank of assistant
professor.
2. Holding a Degree of Ph. D. or expected to pass final examination or oral
defense by June 30 of 2009.
3. Ability to communicate fluently in both oral and written Mandarin
Chinese.

Qualifications for research technician in the Center for Survey Research
1. Holding a degree of M.A. or Ph. D. in sociology, political science,
economics, public health, education, or related fields and having at least
two
(for Ph. D.) to four years (for M. A.) of experience in survey research
related
work.
2. Ability to communicate fluently in both oral and written Mandarin
Chinese.

1. Curriculum vitae (in both English and Chinese). Applicants should
indicate
the center, the type and the rank of the position applied for. Those
applying
for positions in the Center for Survey Research, should provide detailed
description of experiences and publications related to survey research.
2. Statement of research plan (no more than five pages)
3. Copy of the highest degree diploma (or other proof)
4. Three copies of publications or research (or working) papers
(dissertation
is required if degree was awarded after January of 2004)
5. Graduate school transcripts or description of courses taken in graduate
school (optional if degree was awarded before January of 2004)
6. Three letters of reference (mailed directly by referees).
