Kenneth Wachter, Associate Director

Center on the Economics & Demography of Aging (CEDA)

University of California, Berkeley

Professor Wachter,

We are contacting you to ask for help in recruiting NIA postdoctoral
fellows for the Chicago Center on the Demography and Economics of
Aging's training program. We would like to encourage you to get the
word out to someone who might be interested in such a fellowship.
Eligible Ph.D.'s include assistant professors who would benefit from a
year's leave to focus on research.

The Center's fellowship is awarded for one year, but we typically
provide a second year. It also provides health insurance, office space
with a computer, computing support, travel support and opportunities to
supplement the stipend.

The interdisciplinary nature of research and training at the University
of Chicago is one of its distinctive marks and one of its strengths.
The NIA-funded postdoctoral fellowships seek to train new scholars who
will contribute to the demography of aging or economics of aging
research. More information about the Center on the Demography and
Economics of Aging is available at www.src.uchicago.edu/coa.

The NIA fellowship carry a stipend, health insurance, computing support
and travel support, and are renewable with acceptable progress. NORC at
the University of Chicago also provides opportunities to supplement the
stipend, office space and a computer. The fellowship pays a stipend
based on experience with stipends ranging from $36,996 to $51,036
depending upon experience with the amount increasing modestly for every
year of additional support.

Candidates interested in the NIA fellowship must be interested in the
demography of aging or the economics of aging. Fellowships are
restricted to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Candidates must
have completed their Ph.D. in 2009.

Applicants should submit a (1) letter of interest, (2) a statement
outlining their research agenda, (3) two letters of recommendation, and
(4) a sample of written work or a recent publication. Previous research
in aging research is not necessary; however, a future commitment is.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Kathleen Parks (
parks-kathleen at norc.uchicago.edu). Please send application materials by
February 15, 2009 to
